The adventure of Graziella, released last May 6 from the coast of San Giovanni di Sinis , is over: the caretta caretta was found dead on the beach of Shat Nabeul, in Tunisia.
It was one of the turtles that participated in the monitoring program launched by the regional councilorship for the environment : a GPS transmitter had been installed on its carapace which allowed its location and behavior control, with a collection of information useful for studying life and the behavior of these animals. It had traveled over 1300 kilometres.
Graziella had returned to the sea after a six-month period of treatment, necessary when she was found in agony due to a nylon line she had swallowed.
The news of the death came in recent days from the Tunisian turtle rescue center.
"We will try to understand the causes of death following the analysis of the data provided by the satellite device with which the turtle was equipped," say the Sinis recovery center, which participates in the regional project.
