The feast of the Madonna of the castaway returns to Villasimius

In the last two years only a silent demonstration, an act due to the Madonna del Naufrago hosted since 1979 on a depth of eleven meters, near the Isola dei Cavoli. Today the party in Villasimius has returned to its splendor, presenting itself with the same emotion as ever.

The parish priest of Castiadas, Don Luigi Grecu, a diver priest, dived in spite of his 81 years, he lowered himself surrounded by other divers to the feet of the Madonna made of pink trachyte by the sculptor Pinuccio Sciola, he blessed the statue, he prayed at its feet, asking for the protection of sea travelers and those who work there. In this section a laurel wreath was also lowered, then lots of flowers and the applause of the participants, who arrived with the boats that left the port after the celebration of the mass officiated by the parish priest of Villasimius Don Gianni Soro. Present the mayor Gianluca Dessì, other municipal administrators, representatives of the Carabinieri, the Forestry, the Port Authority, the Police at sea with jet skis. And also the men of the Sinnai sub club, of the "Mari nostru" association, of other voluntary associations, tourists and vacationers.

After the mass, a long procession of boats formed which reached the point where in July 1979 the shipwrecked Madonna had been lowered. An appointment that has thus been renewed to be once again close to the Madonna of this splendid sea. "It was really a great emotion - said the mayor Gianluca Dessì -: the feast of Our Lady of the castaway is now identified with Villasimius, with summer and not only, I thank all those who have collaborated since 1979 for the success of this appointment, I thank them guests. I thank Don Soro and Don Grecu who once again plunged to the feet of the Madonna. A truly unforgettable day ".
