The youth council of Sardinia assumes concrete contours for the coordination of the activities of all the councils on the island. «These bodies - explains Gian Luca Atzori, one of the creators of the project, with the task of guiding the network of groups - cultivate the relationship between young people, institutions and politics. A role that no other body plays in the Sardinian context». For this reason, the Tessiu network, which has been active for several years, has decided to promote the creation of a regional body that brings together all the youth councils on the island. «Tessiu is a term that recalls the weaving of the traditional Sardinian carpet and comes from the drafting of a Charter of the Youth Councils», declares Rebecca Pisanu, president of the councils of Southern Sardinia. In 2015, the project brought together 77 groups present on the island, in particular under the guidance of the Consulta di Bauladu. In 2018, Tessiu brought together 160 councils from all provinces, with the aim of structuring a network of territorial representations that can dialogue with the Region and have a voice within the youth policies promoted by Cagliari.

Work in the area

"The pandemic has certainly dealt a severe blow to regional youth policies and to the work of the councils, which also due to a difficult generational turnover have seen several realities disappear after years of important work for the communities", adds Emanuele Orrù, president of the Oristano Councils. But many other virtuous realities were also born which brought new life to the Sardinian youth movement, in particular with the birth of the first inter-municipal councils of the Unions of Municipalities, «fundamental to allow the development of groups even in the most marginal inland areas or more afflicted by depopulation and lack of new recruits», underlines Chiara Zanza, president of the Consulte of the Province of Sassari. Meanwhile, a census has been launched to understand which impulses and energies characterize the consultations (Link: https://forms.gle/22ko9F5tQoNeZr5DA ) . And on the horizon is the law reforming youth policies under discussion in the Regional Council "whose process - assures Gian Luca Atzori - will be followed with great attention by the nascent Youth Council of Sardinia".
