«For over a month , molecular tests for patients infected with HIV, HCV, HBV and other diseases caused by other pathogens such as chlamydia and gonorrhea have been suspended due to the failure of the ASL of Cagliari to purchase reagents»: the complaint is from the provincial secretary of Fials, Paolo Cugliara.

According to the workers' union, "the Ares management decision that restored the budgets has not been applied in the Cagliari ASL despite repeated requests." The consequence: "The impossibility of starting new therapies, of following up patients, of confirming new diagnoses of infections."

There are over 1,000 patients being treated in the infectious disease department, according to data in the union's possession, "and the laboratory seems to be focused on non-hospital activities such as tests for the renewal of driving licenses or gun licenses," writes Fials.

The Molecular Biology sector of the Santissima Trinità has also been housed for almost 12 years in the never-used Penitentiary Medicine department: "The employees work with windows equipped with bars, grates and fixed blackout louvers. The Infectious Diseases doctors do not know what to say to the patients, considering that those treated in this sector suffer twice: from the consequences of the infection and from the social stigma of the disease, and there is a lot of discontent among the workers".
