Castle, the port and the suburbs of Cagliari could soon become a set for fiction, documentaries and films. The opportunity thanks to the "Filming Cagliari" project, which involves the Sardegna Film Commission and the Municipality, with the administration putting 50 thousand euros on the plate.

Among the objectives of the initiative is also to bring great directors and important productions to the city. The call is aimed at Italian, European and non-European productions presenting television drama projects, feature-length films, documentaries and docu-fiction. An essay of what has already been done will go on the big screen in a film festival scheduled from 15 to 30 September at the Manifattura Tabacchi. For the mayor Paolo Truzzu it is an opportunity that «facilitates an economic return and creates professional figures».

A concept also reaffirmed by the Councilor for Culture Maria Dolores Picciau : «This way of doing business is a test for creating professionalism. However, the goal is not only to enhance the artistic and scenic beauties of the capital, but to create real opportunities for economic and employment growth. It is also an important tool for the training of our young people, who can find an important job opportunity in the film industry».

Nevina Satta (Sardegna Film commission) recalled some examples of films or fiction filmed in Cagliari: from Accabadora by Enrico Pau to L'isola di Pietro with Gianni Morand i. «We have already had some results - he said - now we want to transform what has been episodic for now into a systematic one. There was, thanks to Filming Cagliari, an increase in productions of 54%».

About 60 works supported so far by the project, including the documentary by Riccardo Milani on Gigi Riva "In our sky a rumble of thunder", "La Terra delle Donne", by Marisa Vallone with Paola Sini, Matteo Fresi's first work "Mute of Gallura".
