The Ministry of Universities and Research has sent a formal warning to the Mario Sironi Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari, highlighting serious administrative and management issues as well as violations of the law.
With the formal notice, the ministry requests that full administrative legality and the orderly functioning of the institution be restored within fifteen days. Failure to do so will result in the urgent initiation of the statutory administration.
The decision follows a lengthy ministerial investigation and repeated discussions with the Academy, initiated as part of the process to appoint the president. The applications submitted to the ministry by the institution did not meet the criteria established by law and presented numerous critical issues.
Specifically, the shortlist of three candidates to select the president was produced by an Academic Council whose actions were the subject of numerous complaints. Since the shortlist was first submitted in June 2025, the Ministry recalls having requested clarifications, additional documentation, and new resolutions from the Academic Council, noting deficiencies in the investigation, doubts about the qualifications of some candidates, possible conflicts of interest, and anomalies in the appointment process.
The MUR had also requested a review of the procedure, recalling respect for the principle of collegiality and the need for the three candidates to truly represent the Academic Council and be supported by rigorous verification of the requirements established by law.
The formal notice identifies further serious critical issues relating to the functioning of the Academy's bodies, starting with the Academic Council itself, which is responsible for formulating the shortlist for the presidency, administrative and teaching management, and compliance with the principles of transparency, impartiality, and effectiveness of administrative action.
