There are 137 social and health workers who had requested stabilization and were included in the ranking of those eligible. The Cagliari Local Health Authority had contracted them on a fixed-term basis, between the end of 2020 and 2021, drawing from a ranking based on qualifications at the Brotzu hospital.
The darkest phase of the Sars-Cov-2 emergency.
It was the end of 2020, the virus was still a completely unknown enemy, the fog of fear disorientated all of humanity, while the new semantics of the pandemic called healthcare workers "heroes" and the departments, overflowing with Covid positives, were the trenches of a war against a ruthless and invisible enemy.
Of this quota of 137 small everyday heroes, eligible for stabilisation, recruited in the last three years by ASL 8, with quarterly and six-monthly contracts in derogation until 30 September, only 80 will be stabilized starting from October. The other 57, with the same score and hiring priority, having completed at least 18 months of service over the last eight years and at least six months during the Covid emergency, are denied the prospect of a stable working future. Thus, the legislation dictates, at least 50 percent of new hires must take place through a competition, as explained by the general director of the Cagliaritan local health authority, Marcello Tidore; therefore, from 10 October the pre-selection will start for the competition organized by Ares for the hiring of 57 socio-health workers across the island, for which 6,700 have already applied, many from other regions.

At the Cagliari Local Health Authority the 57 "health emergency redundancies" will be replaced by 5 new hires.

Expressing the anger of the OSS, cut off from the stabilization, is Daniela Meloni, 51 years old, since January 2021, OSS in the Medicine department of the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari: «We have not received any official communication of renewal, until today, for roundabout ways we know that we will be extended for another three months. No respect for our 57 families. We feel used and now, like old rags, thrown in the garbage. For three very complicated years, we did not hold back, we responded to the repeated calls from Ats, for the new Covid waves, until December 2022, thus reaching 18 months of seniority which allowed us to request stabilisation, then continuing with subsequent extensions of three months in three months. Now all this is irrelevant for the current legislation and not even the ethics and dignity of work and workers count for anything. I wonder what the policy and corporate strategies of our Local Health Authority 8 are for. We ask that we continue to work and that we be recognized for the commitment and self-sacrifice demonstrated during these years of the pandemic."

Francesca Locci, 46 years old, OSS of the Cardiology department of the Santissima Trinità continues: «If they already knew in advance that they could only stabilize 80, why did they make a ranking of 137? To delude ourselves? We would like to know: what will happen to us? And how much is our dignity worth, first as people and then as professionals. Because this discrimination is damaging first of all our dignity and then our health, well mentioned in article 32 of the Italian Constitution."
