A German citizen of Turkish origin was arrested in Sardinia on charges of having participated in a terrorist association , an hypothesis which carries the penalty of up to 15 years' imprisonment. In particular, he allegedly joined the PKK/KCK armed organization in 2005.
The blitz was triggered yesterday by the police and in particular by the Digos of the Sassari Police Headquarters in conjunction with the Central Prevention Police Directorate - Service for the Contrast of Extremism and External Terrorism.
Since the previous evening, the man had been staying in an accommodation facility in the province where he had arrived from Germany for a holiday.
Thanks to the information flow guaranteed, also, by the Central Directorate for the Criminal Police, he was tracked down by Digos operators. Once his identity was ascertained, the agents arrested him and took him to the Bancali prison where he is available to the Court of Appeal of Cagliari-Sassari Detached Section.
He is the recipient of a provisional arrest warrant for extradition purposes issued by the Turkish authorities.
