Following the signing of the Ministerial Decree and its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, the new air territorial continuity model for Sardinia is now fully operational. Today, the tenders for the assignment of flights to and from the island were published on Sardegna CAT.

The tenders, which will remain open for sixty days, concern routes from Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero to Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate. Interested airlines will thus have time to submit their bids, ahead of the launch of the new system scheduled for the 2026 IATA summer season at the end of March.

The model, approved in August and the result of joint work between the Region, the Ministry, ENAC, and the European Commission, introduces several new features: increased flight numbers, reduced fares for residents, a distribution of flight times across four daily slots, and an expansion of the categories eligible for discounts.

Reduced rates are also available for non-residents with family ties in Sardinia and for workers traveling for professional reasons.

"With the publication of the tenders, we enter the final phase of a complex process, developed step by step together with the Ministry, ENAC, and the European Commission," said Regional Councilor for Transport, Barbara Manca. "Now it's up to the carriers, who will be able to participate in an innovative and fairly remunerated model, designed to guarantee Sardinian citizens the right to mobility 365 days a year."
