Firefighters completed their efforts late last night to extinguish the blaze that destroyed the abandoned Italian Railways warehouses on Via Azuni, near the center of Porto Torres.
The fire, likely caused by arson, damaged the structures located next to the municipal headquarters of the Avis association, which was temporarily evacuated for safety reasons.
"The fire has caused the temporary suspension of the 112 and 118 emergency services," emphasized Walter Chiarabaglio , president of Avis. "We would like to thank all the competent forces who carried out the firefighting operations. We thank the "I Granai" shopping center for allowing us to ensure the safe parking of our emergency vehicles. We acknowledge what happened and trust that the competent authorities will take swift action."
Four ambulances were stationed outside in a safety zone, leaving operators unable to intervene and provide emergency services. The fire rendered the garage housing the emergency vehicles unusable. The Carabinieri of the Porto Torres branch are investigating the incident and awaiting the fire department's report.
