The chaos in Terralba over the choice of a GP is sparking heated controversy. The queues, even 12 hours long, in front of the outpatient clinic are etched in everyone's mind. Mayor Sandro Pili speaks of an "absurd situation, with inadequate organisation and management" .
The next day, the paradox that occurred on Monday was a topic of discussion, when the 500 places available at the Terralba doctor disappeared in an instant . The ASL had communicated in recent days that the choice of doctor could be made both online and at the counter, without specifying anything else. "Then it was discovered that only the change could be made on the Internet, and many people used it to move from one clinic to another," the mayor emphasizes. Obviously, the online clicks beat those who had been waiting in line for hours to the punch and still find themselves without assistance today .
The health authority only clarified late on Tuesday evening that "the choice on the regional portal could not be made by patients without a family doctor. For the first assignment, documents must be presented at the counter". Queues are inevitable given that "in the territorial area 3.1 (Arborea, Marrubiu, Arcidano, Terralba and Uras) over 7 thousand citizens do not have a doctor and on Monday there were 500 new places available - it reads - The ASL has tried to manage the situation as best as possible". Finally, the authority states that "the rule does not provide for the possibility of establishing priorities in the choice of doctor because in a normal condition all citizens, fragile or not, should have a general practitioner". Here there is nothing normal anymore, healthcare is in an emergency.
Meanwhile, there is an open controversy between the regional councilor of FdI Emanuele Cera who has presented a question on the case to the president Todde and to the councilor Baratolazzi . Cera asks for clarifications but also accuses the committees of having remained silent.
The response from the Coordination of Health Committees was timely, recalling their constant commitment. "What happened in the Terralba Health District is certainly unacceptable, but certainly not for the reasons stated by Cera," writes the Committee. The problem, according to the representatives of the Committee, concerns the entire District of Terralba, Marrubiu, Arborea, Uras and San Nicolò d'Arcidano: it is here that the greatest number of citizens without a GP is concentrated, a condition that has been reported for some time with public initiatives and requests for intervention. "In recent years," they continue, "we have sought constant dialogue with the General Management, which has accepted some of our proposals, such as the strengthening of ASCOT, thanks also to the availability of retired doctors."
