The exceptions to the movement of pig animals and products for certified companies in Sardinian territories classified as not yet free from African swine fever will be operational in the next few hours according to what was established for Sardinia by the European Commission which on 15 December decreed the end of the total embargo started in 2011.

The determination announced yesterday in Nuoro was signed and transmitted by the head of the UDP and will be published on the region's institutional portal. Contains details of exemptions for live animal handling, slaughter and meat and by-products.

«A fundamental step for our companies in the livestock sector», comments the president of the Region, Christian Solinas. "Starting from the provisions of the European regulation - he underlines - a work has been carried out that allows us today to apply the derogations, restoring certainties to breeders and operators of veterinary services responsible for controls, in compliance with the legislation and protecting as much as possible those , in recent years, has faced sacrifices to obtain certification of farms, thus contributing to the collective effort for the eradication of the virus and to the result achieved at a community level".

«In terms of restrictions - continues the governor - in December we reached a goal that Sardinia had been pursuing for some time, however our work is not finished and the commitment on the territory and at the tables in Rome and Brussels continues with the only goal of getting to the cancellation of even the latest restrictions. The pig sector of our region expresses quality and excellence, the development of the sector represents an indispensable opportunity for our economy».
