During the national assembly of Anci, Cagliari received an important recognition at the Cresco Awards – Sustainable Cities, promoted by Fondazione Sodalitas. The Municipality won the award in the category “Sustainable Mobility”, assigned by Pirelli, for the Svolta program.

The Svolta project, active from 2017 to 2022, was born with the aim of reducing the use of private cars for home-work and home-study travel, promoting instead sustainable and intelligent means of transport . Through an integrated system of interventions and tools, both infrastructural and incentive measures have been implemented to reduce traffic and pollution generated by approximately 60,000 public employees and university students who travel around the city every day.

One of the innovative elements of the program was the development of the mobile application Svoltiamo , designed by the Research Center on Mobility Models (CRiMM) of the University of Cagliari. The app monitors citizens' sustainable travel and rewards participants with points that can be accumulated for every kilometer traveled by bike, on foot or by public transport. The points allow you to compete for mobility vouchers, concretely incentivizing changes in travel habits.

"We are proud of this award, which recognizes our commitment to a sustainable future," comments the councilor for mobility, Yuri Marcialis. "But we do not stop here: we are working to renew and relaunch the initiative, aware that sustainable mobility is a crucial challenge for improving the quality of life in our city. A special thanks to all those who have collaborated in the success of Svolta, from the University of Cagliari to the technical partners, to the citizens who have actively participated. This award is the symbol of a path that we want to continue together."
