He didn't want to make it appear as an exceptional thing, in fact it was the citizens who saw him at work who thanked him and not him who communicated the decoration operation on the municipal roads. Lodovico Piras, 41-year-old mayor of Girasole, took up the brushcutter and cut the grass at the entrance to the town which he has been administering for a year wearing the tricolor band but of which he was deputy and councilor for the previous ten years.

Taking advantage of an hour free from institutional and professional commitments, he cut the grass near the roundabout in via Nazionale, fresh from its inauguration.

«The guys from the socially useful construction sites didn't have time to complete the maintenance of the roads and so I went» Piras said at the height of the day of celebration (Pratzas in festa) which attracted a large number of visitors to Girasole.

It is certainly not so common for a mayor to take the trouble to carry out maintenance work himself.

But Lodovico Piras is not new to similar initiatives. The last few days ago, when he cut out a few hours from his job to fix the roads by laying cold tar. All in the name of safety and decorum.
