Balai beach swallowed by the stormy sea. Meters and meters of beach disappeared under the waves. The storm surges caused by the strong north-east wind, with gusts reaching 120 kilometers per hour, were enough to reveal the fragility of the Porto Torres coastline. A phenomenon that of coastal erosion that affects over two kilometers of coast.

The strong wave of bad weather in the last few hours has given rise to an even more worrying situation with the waves that continue to advance dangerously. Some rocks have collapsed on the Balai beach. The regional funding, equal to 1 million and 600 thousand euros, although insufficient, will serve to guarantee the safety of a part of the coast that extends from Balai Vicino to Platamona and affects the foundations of the Abbacurrente tower, the structure at risk of collapse. In the meantime, a remodulation of the definitive-executive project has become necessary for an adjustment of the price list of the Region on the costs of the interventions to be carried out for the safety.

Among the latest news is the signing of the financing agreement, equal to 1 million and 498,383.88 euros, between the Municipality of Porto Torres and the Nature Protection and Forestry Policies Service, through which the methods for the continuation of the implementation of interventions against coastal erosion are regulated. This is an agreement on the works of securing the back beach cliffs on the coasts of Balai near Abbacurrente and the intervention to protect the foundation soils of the Abbacurrente Tower, within the framework of the Pr Fesr Programming 2021-2027, with which the procedural and financial timetable is approved.
