He had been stopped in mid-December on the outskirts of Cagliari with a load of 16 kilos of pure cocaine, which investigators believed to be the supply of drugs for the holiday season intended for frequenters of Cagliari's clubs. This morning the Ukrainian Oleh Shlender, 42, managed to negotiate a plea deal of 5 years in prison before the judge for the preliminary hearings of the Court, Ermengarda Ferrarese.
His trusted defense attorney, attorney Benedetta Mauro, reached an agreement on the sentence with the public prosecutor Andrea Massidda that the judge then deemed appropriate, reading the sentence in the late morning. Five years is the maximum sentence that can be negotiated, but it is still a moderate sentence if one takes into account the type and quantity of the drug.
On December 12, the forty-two-year-old was traveling on state highway 131 on board a Fiat 500 with a load of 16.35 kilos of cocaine hidden in the rear part of the bodywork. When he reached the outskirts of the metropolitan city , he was stopped by agents of the Flying Squad of the Police Headquarters and the investigative section of the Central Operations Service (Sisco), who searched the vehicle and arrested him for possession of narcotics with intent to sell. The agents noticed the man stop near an overpass, along Carlo Felice, at the height of Mogoro, but they made him continue on, following him at a distance until he reached his destination and the check was carried out. Some anomalies were found in the car doors: the inside was unglued and blocks of cocaine had been hidden inside the empty space.
In recent months, the lawyer Mauro has sought an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office on the plea bargain, given that the defendant risked a very heavy sentence linked to the aggravating circumstance of the large quantity: in the end, the prosecutor Massidda agreed on 5 years of imprisonment and today the judge Ermengarda Ferrarese gave the green light by applying the sentence.
