Farewell to Gianni Campus. The architect, former Councilor for Urban Planning for the City of Cagliari, has died at the age of 83. Born in Bitti on September 15, 1943, Giovanni Maria Campus practiced architecture in Cagliari and for many years conducted research and teaching at the city's university. He was a tenured researcher at the Faculty of Engineering and a professor of Architectural Composition. He joined the Cagliari City Council in 2004 , during the administration of Mayor Emilio Floris, with responsibility for Urban Planning. He was confirmed in Floris's second term, and remained in office until 2011.

In 2006, he served on the jury of the international competition for the design of the Museum of Nuragic Art and Contemporary Mediterranean Art in Cagliari, the Betile , representing the Municipality of Cagliari. However, the museum designed by star architect Zaha Hadid never saw the light of day.

After his time on the Cagliari City Council, in 2011 he was appointed Technical Councilor for Urban Planning in the Municipality of Iglesias. His role coincides with an important period in the urban transformation of Cagliari and Sardinia . His documented activities include his work on many municipal urban plans on the island, including those in Arzachena, La Maddalena, Sant'Antioco, Cardedu, Selargius, and Maracalagonis.
