The first nest of a Caretta caretta turtle, on La Pelosa beach in Stintino, was placed under protection by the operators of Crama, the Marine Animal Recovery Centre on the island of Asinara, who intervened on the day of its discovery on the beach about 12 metres from the shore.

The 59 eggs were transferred to the CNR headquarters in Torre Grande, Oristano , and kept by scientific referents in the incubator, where they are constantly monitored to ensure hatching. The storm surges represented a constant risk for the nest, with sea water penetrating deep into the sand, endangering the eggs. Hatching will presumably occur in October, but success is not 100% guaranteed .

The transfer to Oristano was necessary after the last attempt to protect the eggs from the high tide . On that occasion they had been moved a few meters from the place where they had been laid, on September 3, when at dawn a Tuscan tourist had immortalized the event.
