The mayor of Stintino, Rita Vallebella, adopts a tough fist and puts on paper the prohibition, throughout the municipal area, of releasing balloons or colored ribbons made of plastic material into the air , a cause of pollution in the seas.

Once the balloons are lifted into the sky, after being filled with gases lighter than air, they then fall back on land and sea in the form of waste and are eventually ingested by animals causing their death.

The ordinance was signed yesterday following the worrying event involving a tourist resort in Stintino, where hundreds of balloons were launched during a party , an action which led to the dispersion of a large number of pieces of plastic in the surrounding environment, contravening the environmental protection policies that the Municipality is actively pursuing. Failure to comply with the ordinance involves the application of severe penalties ranging from 25 to 500 euros .

The municipal administration has asked the competent authorities to evaluate the event that occurred in recent days at the resort and that adequate measures be taken to minimize the negative effects on the environment. "It is essential to educate and sensitize all those involved on the importance of environmental protection - said the mayor - and on the harmful consequences of irresponsible actions".
