The small coastal village of Stintino officially enters the Italian cultural elite, obtaining the qualification of “City that Reads” for the three-year period 2024-2026 .
The recognition, awarded by the Center for Books and Reading in collaboration with ANCI, represents a significant milestone for the Municipality and demonstrates the commitment made over the last two years to promote reading as a social and cultural value. The qualification is reserved for municipalities that, through targeted policies, invest in the diffusion of reading and books as tools for social cohesion and improvement of the quality of life.
For Stintino, the title comes at the culmination of a journey made of events, collaborations and innovative projects, which have involved schools, associations and citizens of all ages. "This recognition is a source of pride for Stintino and for our entire community", declared the mayor Rita Vallebella. "Being recognized as a 'City that Reads' is not just a title, but the symbol of a collective commitment. Culture is the basis of every social development and, through the promotion of reading, we want to build a future of participation and shared growth.".
Councilor for Culture Marta Diana emphasized the strategic value of this qualification: "In the last two years we have worked to create an inclusive cultural ecosystem, with initiatives that have brought more and more people closer to reading. This recognition allows us to access new funding calls, which will help us further develop our cultural activities. I thank all those who have made this result possible."
Thanks to the qualification, Stintino will be able to participate in the national call “Città che Legge” and, for the municipalities of Southern Italy, also in the call “Libraries and communities”. Both programs will allow financing new projects dedicated to the diffusion of books and the promotion of reading, involving schools, families and local associations.
