Hundreds of traps for birds and animals placed by poachers have been removed by volunteers from the League for the Abolition of Hunting and from GRIG in the woods and countryside of Southern Sardinia.

In particular, the volunteers explain, «hundreds of traps for avifauna were eliminated (nooses on trees and nooses on sticks positioned on the ground) and 32 snares for mammals, a fowling net were dismantled and a woodpecker was freed in a noose, but luckily I'm still alive."

The checks and reclamation of the paths were carried out in collaboration with the carabinieri of the Cites unit of Cagliari, the staff of the Forestry Corps and with the Grig. Hidden cameras have also been placed to spot poachers.

«Southern Sardinia – underlines the Lac – confirms itself as one of the hottest points of poaching in Italy: in the deadly noose traps placed by poachers, numerous specimens of Thrushes are killed indiscriminately and after a long suffering, but also particularly protected species such as Robins, birds of prey and small mammals. Poaching in the area is particularly flourishing, restaurants and private individuals are willing to pay over 100 euros for every 8 birds plucked to cook the so-called "grive", a traditional Sardinian dish which feeds a prosperous black market".
