"The no of the Sardinian people to nuclear waste in our territory is irrevocable, the State respects the will of the Regional Council and the outcome of the referendum of 2011".

President Christian Solinas reiterated this in the seminar organized by Sogin.

"In 2011 - recalls the governor - more than 97% of the Sardinian people voted against the localization of waste on the island, and even the Regional Council in various stages has clearly expressed the opposite".

The Region has also set up a technical-scientific committee which already on 26 March transmitted some technical reasons for the refusal.

Some reasons for the no: “Sardinia hosts more than half of the military easements present in Italy, about 65%, to the detriment of the enhancement of our territory. It would be yet another unreasonable sacrifice imposed on our Island, which already bears a load greater than that of any other region of Italy ”.

Furthermore, observes Solinas, “the risks, in the event of an accident, would be enormously increased by the impossibility for the population to be effectively and rapidly evacuated”.

Then there is the question linked to the Sardinian water system which, for reasons related to the fight against drought, is “highly integrated” and therefore an accident “could quickly compromise the entire regional water supply”.

Other technical arguments are the dangerousness of maritime transport and the consequent economic outlay for the state.

The areas identified in the Cnapi, National Map of Potentially Suitable Areas, 14 in Sardinia, also present “landslide risks much more widespread than those assessed by Sogin”. Finally, "none of the areas identified is able to guarantee the needs of isolation from anthropogenic infrastructures and human activities", as well as presenting a "high or even very high archaeological risk".
