According to a study by the National System for Environmental Protection , Sardinia is the region where the most land was dedicated to ground-mounted photovoltaics in 2023, with a consumption of over 91 hectares (approximately 37% of the total).

But while the battle between mayors and anti-speculation committees continues, another study—by ISPRA—argues that consuming land with large-scale installations is unnecessary to ensure energy from renewables. The use of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of homes and public buildings could, in fact, resolve this dispute once and for all.
