"I feel like I'm being mocked. For years I've been asking for the final section of the pipeline to be replaced, which is causing us serious problems, and only now are we being told that the delay is due to a lack of authorization from Anas. This is all absurd and ridiculous. In the meantime, I ask residents experiencing health problems to explain to doctors that the pipelines carrying water to the San Vero Congius area are filled with yellow, foul-smelling water." Simaxis Mayor Giacomo Obinu is a raging river , responding to Abbanoa with these words.

The water utility announced yesterday that work on the final section of the pipeline hasn't started because permits to block traffic on the state road haven't been issued. But Mayor Obinu isn't buying it: "On the 388 in recent years, precisely with Anas, we've carried out important projects. And even in this case, we could have all reached an agreement together. As a last resort, I would have brought the matter to the attention of the prefect, just to allow the workers to replace the final section of the pipeline. The truth is perhaps different: Abbanoa in the San Vero Congius district has forgotten about it. After all, the initial work was carried out before Covid. How come the utility hasn't found a solution in all these years? Yet the bills keep arriving, despite the fact that an inadequate service is being provided. The situation has now deteriorated, and citizens are putting their health at risk." Just a few days ago, a resident who fell ill was told that the cause could be unsafe water: "Should we wait until someone is truly ill? "The residents of the San Vero Congius hamlet have been living with yellow, smelly water for a year, and now they're afraid. After all, it's used for cooking and also for washing."

It was the same local health authority, a few weeks ago, after analyzing a sample, which reported the presence of coliform bacteria ( bacteria present in the intestines of humans and animals and can contaminate food and water)and a quantity of iron twelve times higher than normal. This is why Mayor Giacomo Obinu subsequently ordered a ban on the use of the water. He also asked Abbanoa to intervene immediately. Meanwhile, last Tuesday, residents gathered to address the issue. During a public meeting, they asked the administrators to hand the matter over to the municipality's lawyer. "And so we did," the mayor explains. "We can't wait any longer." For now, even the payment of the bills is in doubt.
