A silo at the Enel power plant in Portovesme containing acidic water collapsed and the sheet metal damaged an adjacent vehicle and wall, causing an injury to a worker who was working on site.

The accident occurred yesterday and today the unions, who reconstructed the dynamics in a note, are talking about a "failed massacre" and are calling for a two-hour strike on the first shift tomorrow.

"Only for a purely fortuitous case we are not talking about the umpteenth tragedy at work", observe the territorial secretariats of Fiom, Fsm and Uilm, "we consider what happened to be extremely serious and invite the competent authorities and institutions to carry out the necessary checks and controls foreseen, calling Enel to its responsibilities".

Fiom, Fsm and Uilm highlight that "what happened yesterday is in addition to the investigations requested from Spresal less than a month ago for the failure of the elevator of the second group, which has been stopped for over a year. Lack of maintenance and investments, denounced by the metalworkers during the assembly held at the gates on 11 October 2024. Today those complaints take on even stronger and more worrying tones", reads the joint note, "the discontent and concern among the workers of the Portovesme plant is growing, forced to work in increasingly precarious conditions, as a result of the uncertainty in the assignment of contracts and the work to be carried out, which highlight a safety problem that must be addressed".
