Pietrina Niola turns 106. She is the longest-lived woman in Silanus and Marghine and among the oldest on the island.

She was born on October 30, 1919, and despite some ailments, she continues to keep her memory alive, recalling the terrible years of the war and the difficult life in the countryside.

Mother of nine children, with ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, Tia Pietrina concretely represents the living heritage of the country and the Island.

Widowed for 24 years, her 106th birthday represents a significant milestone. She has always lived in the village, helping her husband, Michelino Madeddu, with his farming and pastoral activities. She survived the two pandemics, which nevertheless marked her life, unscathed: the so-called "Spanish Flu" and, most recently, Covid.

As mentioned, Pietrina retains a good memory, recalls the past, and even recites some poetry in Limba. She lives in her home in the historic center of town, cared for by her children.

Tia Pietrina reveals the secret to longevity: "Living and working with serenity and always eating wholesome foods. If I'm still here, it's also thanks to God's will."

Mrs. Niola continues to read the newspapers and stays up-to-date on world events by watching TV: "War is always a bad thing. Let's hope they find peace soon and the suffering of people and children ends."
