More than a confrontation , a clash between the Region and the Government on cuts in school autonomy , with 40 institutions at risk of closure on the island.

The Councilor for Education, Andrea Biancareddu, confirmed Sardinia's strong perplexities during the face-to-face meeting with the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara and his no to the signing of the new School Sizing, proposed by the Government at the request of the European Union .

«I am collaborative by nature – began Biancareddu – I listened carefully, trying to understand your reasoning. Unfortunately I don't share even one of them and I tell you why on the merits. It is a strongly centralist law where the Region is called to apply purely algebraic data and is relegated to a mere executor of these rules ».

«We are facing a Decree that certainly penalizes the Region of Sardinia as it is based exclusively on algebraic numerical data – he continues -. School reform cannot be achieved by counting only the population and pupils. I strongly asked the Minister to take into account the morphology of Sardinia, the difficulties of connection, the school dropout rate and the Invalsi tests. It seems that this has not been implemented, so there would also be grounds for challenging the Decree , as we are talking about equalizing factors such as demographic density, such as connections, such as the presence of small islands of linguistic minorities".

«Then in fact it is based only on numbers - he continues - It is clear that it unloads on the Regions the burdensome task of cutting, merging, mending, seeing how many Municipalities it takes to arrive at a quorum of autonomy. Keep in mind that we have autonomy with 23 25 Municipalities which would reach 40, so to visit them all, the head teacher in charge would have to make a Tour de France. My opinion is negative, naturally in propositional terms, but surely if things remain as they are, I'm not in a position to apply this rule as it is».

Then the provocation: " They will have to put me under commissioner " even though "I still hope for an industrious rethinking that can lead to a decent solution that protects Sardinian boys' right to study and takes into account our insularity and our peculiarities. In these four years I have fought hard and I have also succeeded with Minister Azzolina in having an exemption for the mountain municipalities. I would also be curious to know - he concluded - how from Brussels they thought of merging the autonomy of Seui with another of a neighboring country. If the bureaucrats are aware of how our roads are, of our demographic density which is equal to 67 inhabitants per square kilometer and of all our peculiarities which, please, are not the objective data of our Sardinia and also our beauty . But to treat different cases equally is a clear violation of the principle of equality .'
