School cuts, teachers and unions in the streets in Cagliari: «An attack on the right to education»
The protest against school sizing in front of the Regional Council: «An unfortunate choice»"An unfortunate choice." This is the thinking of teachers and unions regarding the school sizing plan, which on the island will cancel 42 autonomies out of 270 institutes . Today, coinciding with the convening of the school's regional assembly, five hundred gathered in front of the Council headquarters to protest.
The mobilization, promoted by Flc Cgil, Cisl Scuola, Snals, Confsal and Fgu Gilda Unams, saw very high participation: «We have already asked for a discussion with the Region», explains the regional secretary of Flc Sardegna Emanuela Valurta, «but there is was denied: no one received us. The cuts mean cultural impoverishment especially for the most fragile areas: the particularity of our island is not taken into account. And this means an attack on the right to education . And we cannot allow it."
A meeting only postponed, because the president of the Region will receive the teachers over the next week. Until that moment, the fight will continue: «We will protest again until we obtain results», says the regional secretary of CISL school Maria Luisa Serra. «No to this unfortunate choice» .
