The regional councilor for public education Andrea Biancareddu took a tough stance against the new school sizing, which for Sardinia involves a cut of more than 40 institutions .

The exponent of the Giunta Solinas expressed all his concerns in a letter to the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara : «We have just received the draft decree and I am very worried, I have also gathered the strong perplexities that come from the Sardinian school system. I illustrated to the minister the serious consequences that the application of the regulatory provision introduced by the latest Budget Law could have for our Region . The scheme that has been forwarded to us, in fact, makes explicit the objective envisaged by the law of proceeding with a reduction of school autonomy which would entail a cut of over 40 institutions for Sardinia ».

While aware that "the sharp decline in school population requires a reorganization", Biancareddu believes that the institutions should in any case "guarantee respect for the principles of equality and the right to study, which with this drastic reduction of autonomy cannot be pursued ".

The workforce that would be assigned to the island would in fact be " much lower than the effective needs of the territory".

«Our region - explains Biancareddu - is characterized by a very low population density , by a morphological and orographic conformation such as to make accessibility of a large part of the regional territory difficult as well as by an inadequacy of road and railway infrastructures which makes mobility very difficult internal ".

The reference is in particular "to the most disadvantaged inland areas at risk of depopulation". In fact, on the island "there are numerous educational institutions present in mountain municipalities and geographically isolated areas, where a possible unification would jeopardize the possibility of offering an efficient and functional school service to the needs of the territory".

For this reason, concludes the councilor in the official note sent to the minister, "in relation to the 2024/2025 programming, I say right away that it will be impossible for me to adopt a provision defining the school network that complies with state prescriptions ".
