Months of unknowns for the 25 workers of the Olmedo mine in the Sassari area. In November their contract expires and the future seems increasingly uncertain but in the fog of resolutions the Ugl union intervenes with a clear position. "Since the concession belongs to the State, even if the property is private - declares the secretary for Sassari-Tempio Maria Teresa Pisu - the Region should either buy the mine or proceed with an expropriation".

The last tenders for the management of the site, from which the bauxite is extracted, have gone deserted and for some years it has been Igea, the in-house company of the Region, which has taken care of it by making it safe.

But what lies ahead for the workers? "The councilor for industry Anita Pili - continues Pisu - argues that there will be no stabilization and she herself, with the 2021 resolution, proposed the closure for the end of the year". The hope then, as written before, is that the Region acquires the mine and, "being obliged to keep it open, keeps the children present and retires those of age". Otherwise, argues Pisu, in the face of a possible closure, the workers "would be out of the market".

The alternative could be the transfer of headquarters but on this point the Ugl appears doubtful. "What the other unions are proposing - concludes the secretary - is the stabilization of workers in other bodies but we wonder what they can be considering that only Igea deals with mining activities". What is certain is that, between now and November, many will intervene on the issue, including politicians.
