The regeneration of the old Civic Market involves a return to the past. Mayor Nanni Campus rejected the previous administration's project that aimed at a restructuring that would transform the historic market of Sassari into a center of taste and craftsmanship. "The new market is an inadequate structure, restoring the civic market to its original function means making it the fulcrum of the rebirth of the historic center".

The historic market has been abandoned for years and used only for rare and sporadic cultural events. The work is already financed with six million euros. The pool of designers has thought about the restoration, redevelopment and functionality, because it “recovers the torn social fabric of the historic center”.

It will be a building not enclosed by too many walls but open towards the valley of the Rosello Fountain, with five entrances, three in viale Umberto and two in via Mercato and the external areas that incorporate the Liberty shelter and can be used for events.

Mayor Campus made a wish: “In two years I hope to be able to buy back meat and fish in our market as it once was”.
