The Vermorel Type 2 is Sardinia's oldest car. The one that the citizens of Cagliari, somewhat astounded, saw passing through via Roma in July 1903 . Today it has been transferred to Sassari in Piazza Università: right at the University, in the Aula Magna, it will be the subject of a conference organized by the "Il Volante" association, opened by the rector Gavino Mariotti.

For the occasion, a couple (Alessandro Casula and Claudia Carlini) belonging to the "Vittoriani itinerant" association, dressed up in period costumes, without neglecting any detail, as they strolled alongside the vehicle, amidst the amused curiosity of those present. The old car had been won at the time by a lucky farmer from Sestu in a lottery organized by the national magazine "Il cultivator". However, the winner didn't even know how to drive it, given that it reached a "well" 10 kilometers per hour speed. The vehicle, which was worth a fortune at the time, could carry up to 5 passengers. Those metal mechanisms, at the beginning of the last century, were about to replace the excellent means of locomotion of thousands of years: the horse. But at the time, few people imagined it.

This and more will be discussed at the conference. "We strongly wanted this initiative," comments Wanda Casula, president of the "Il Volante" association. «The story of the Vermorel Type 2 indeed deserves to be remembered with great attention . Especially for the younger ones, who will have the opportunity to get to know an important piece of industry from their past and the history of the last century».
