Acquitted at first instance of rape charges, convicted on appeal in Sassari. Today, the panel presided over by Maria Teresa Lupinu handed down nine-year prison sentences to a 23-year-old and a 26-year-old man from Sassari accused of gang rape.

According to the charges, the two allegedly raped their lifelong friend, a twenty-year-old, on the night between September 9 and 10, 2021, in a house in the historic center of Sassari.

An action carried out, the prosecution claims, without the consent of the injured party and taking advantage of the young woman's psychophysical conditions, altered by the consumption of alcohol .

Prosecutor Angelo Beccu had requested an eight-year sentence in the first instance. The defendants were represented by Marco Palmieri, while Laura Secchi acted as civil plaintiff's lawyer.
