The Sardegna Trasporti portal, through which citizens residing on the island can request a partial refund for air travel starting from 1 July 2026, is operational again .
It has been updated with all the new features introduced by the Region with the Council resolution of July 15th.
The contribution increases from 25% to 40% of the ticket price, while the minimum eligibility threshold is lowered (from 100 to 80 euros for a single journey) and the annual maximum per beneficiary is increased from 1,000 to 1,500 euros . Another new feature is that reimbursement is available for trips with one or more stopovers, even when the bookings are separate .
The new terms of reimbursement for Sardinian citizens are therefore becoming operational: "A concrete intervention to make the right to mobility more accessible and reduce the cost of connections to and from our island, reducing the economic disadvantages that Sardinians face every time", claims Councillor Barbara Manca .
Refunds are available to all citizens residing in Sardinia and cover all flights between Sardinian airports and those within the European Economic Area, regardless of the airline. Regular flights, which already benefit from discounted fares, are obviously excluded .
For flights operated from July 1, 2026, the subsidy is recognized at 40% of the eligible expenditure, provided that the cost of a single outbound or return trip (including stopovers) is equal to or greater than 80 euros. It is expected that, after reimbursement, the passenger will still be responsible for a minimum expense of 60 euros. For example, on a 100-euro ticket the subsidy will be 40 euros, while on a 200-euro ticket the reimbursement will be 80 euros .
The Region specifies that the change to the regulation on flights with one or more stopovers is retroactive : even those who flew with stopovers and with separate bookings between July 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, can resubmit a refund request (the first was rejected because refunds were not issued for separate bookings).
Applications can be submitted exclusively online through the SardegnaTrasporti portal, accessing with SPID, Electronic Identity Card (CIE), or National Services Card (CNS). The wizard allows you to enter your travel details, provide your IBAN, attach your ticket and documentation proving actual flight use, and track your application status.
For trips made in 2026, the ordinary deadline for submitting applications is March 31, 2027. Contributions will be awarded in the order in which applications are received, until available resources are exhausted .
