The municipal administration of Sassari has decided to postpone the Sardinian Cavalcade and its connected events to the weekend of 3 and 4 June . It is the first time, at least since the management has been in the hands of the Municipality, that an Administration has assumed this responsibility, while in the past the meteorological evolutions were expected until Sunday, possibly canceling it the same morning.

«Up until this morning we had hoped that the forecasts could improve before making such an important decision – explains Mayor Nanni Campus -. Unfortunately, however, today there was a further deterioration. The Sardinian Cavalcade is not an event linked to the dissolution of a religious vow which must necessarily be held on a certain date, but the appointment on the penultimate Sunday of May is simply a custom . In making this choice, we took various aspects into consideration and consulted the artistic director, Giuliano Marongiu, to evaluate the feasibility of the idea».

The decision was taken to protect the groups : «The precious clothes worn by the members of the groups risk being irreparably damaged if wet, not to mention the safety of the horses and riders and amazons. Making groups go on a journey and then not be able to parade, dance or sing is not fair or fair to them. We also thought that stopping the organization today and indicating a new date immediately allows us to limit the economic damage that merchants, restaurateurs, and all other interested activities, including street vendors, would suffer. Even "locking up" the concert-event in a theater would limit participation, while we want it to be a celebration for everyone, like the songs and dances that by definition are held in the square».

The artistic director Giuliano Marongiu is already contacting the groups to check availability on those dates and possibly, if necessary, he will draw on the list of numerous requests received in recent months.
