Seven kilometers, a fresh layer of bitumen, workers at work and four lanes that are reduced to one, a few months after the delivery of the most long-awaited road in Italy, the Sassari-Olbia. From the Ozieri junction to the Ardara junction we return to the old days, to when the Sassari-Olbia was a trap. One lane instead of four , which irritated citizens, motorists and even the mayor of Ardara, Francesco Dui. Who spoke to everyone and was reassured by everyone: work completed on May 16, they told him, we just have to wait a few days. The Anas order is clear: traffic closed in both directions , for both lanes, on the stretch from the newly built roundabout to the Chilivani junction.
But it's not over. At the gates of Sassari another gymkhana is faced: the one near the Chigghizzu tunnels . Curve, there too, and diversion into the first of the two tunnels, the completed one, waiting for the work on the second tunnel to finally be completed.
Modern state road
The Sassari-Olbia was sadly known as the road of crosses. A single carriageway, travelled by hundreds of trucks every day, with forced and risky overtaking, where until 2012 every kilometre corresponded to a death ( 80 victims of accidents until the opening of the construction sites ). From that road, after years of complaints, we have finally moved on to four lanes with a very low percentage of fatal road accidents.
Now the Sassari-Olbia is one of the most modern and functional roads on the island. Of course, a few months after the ribbon was cut, the asphalting and patching works make many turn up their noses . Added to this are the works in the tunnels, at the entrance to Sassari.
