The second part of the preliminary hearing today in Sassari court of Bruno Contu , health director of the AOU, was heard before preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana. Prosecutor Paolo Piras requested that Contu, Fiorenzo Delogu, director of the Office of Hygiene and Public Health, and Giorgio Steri, general director of the ATS, be sent to trial on charges of multiple manslaughter and negligent epidemic for the 11 COVID-19 deaths and dozens of infections that occurred in March 2020 in the Cardiology department of the Santissima Annunziata hospital.

Contu , defended by lawyer Nicola Satta, testified for approximately three and a half hours, as in the previous hearing, denying the prosecutor's accusations and contesting the alleged behavior of the cardiology doctors who, in February 2020, allegedly failed to participate in training courses on the use of personal protective equipment.

One of the controversial points addressed was the discovery, in March 2020, of a patient's positive test result . The communications regarding the infection and the measures adopted regarding swabs, on which there are differing versions, were also discussed.

At the next hearing, on March 16th, Contu will conclude the examination with questions from his lawyers and Delogu will make spontaneous statements. The oral argument is scheduled for the 17th.
