The trial for the 22 Covid deaths of Casa Serena , who disappeared between March and April 2020, opened this morning in court in Sassari .

The proceedings see two people accused of negligent epidemic and multiple manslaughter : Francesca Maria Chessa, president of Coopas which managed the institute at the time, and Marco Sannino, responsible for security in the facility.

The prosecutor Paolo Piras asked for the admission of the witnesses while the civil parties made a request , accepted by the judge Giancosimo Mura, for the Municipality of Sassari to be called into question as a civilly responsible party .

The defense attorneys for the two defendants are Marco Manca and Luigi Esposito for Chessa and Liliana Pintus for Sannino. The next hearing is scheduled for February 12 .
