Two convictions were confirmed and one acquittal for Johnny lo Zingaro's escape. The ruling was made today in the Court of Appeal in Sassari by the panel presided over by Salvatore Marinaro, with Carmela Rita Serra and Giovanni Maria Delogu acting as associates.

The three had appealed the first-instance sentences three years ago for the attempted escape of Johnny lo Zingaro, the life prisoner who failed to return to Bancali prison after a release from prison in September 2020. State police officers had found him, after ten days on the run, in Zinziodda, where he was hiding in a house.

In the first trial, Gabriele Grabesu received four-year sentences and Giovanna Truzzi two years and six months, both of which were reaffirmed by the panel. Cristian Loi, previously sentenced to three years and two months, and represented by the lawyer Stefano Porcu, was acquitted because the charges were not proven. Lorenzo Panei, another defendant, but for aiding and abetting, did not appeal. Truzzi was represented by the lawyer Silvio Toccafondi, while Grabesu was represented by the lawyer Marco Palmieri. The Attorney General had urged convictions for all three.
