The ERSU security guard who was injured today in Sassari's ERSU building on Via La Marmora was discharged from the Santissima Annunziata hospital this afternoon. The 33-year-old had been stabbed by a 23-year-old Moroccan student who had been staying at the ERSU house in the historic center since October.
It's still unclear what prompted the young man's actions. What is certain is that immediately after the assault, the boy climbed onto the roof of the building, leaping down four stories, and landing on Via Al Rosello. And although his prognosis remains guarded and he's been admitted to the Santissima Annunziata hospital, his life isn't in danger. "I spoke to the concierge," says ERSU president Daniele Maoddi, "and he reassured me about his condition. He also said that the 23-year-old has always been a good guy ." Something has recently clicked in the mind of the young man, a fourth-year Biomedical Sciences student with an Italian passport, described as a polite person.
This morning, ERSU received an email from two Erasmus students reporting that the young man had attempted to force his way into their room last night. It's unknown whether the agency's summons of the 23-year-old today, to investigate the incident, played a role in the escalation that occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m., which also included throwing a laptop into the street. "He had a moment of weakness that he will pay for," Maoddi continued, "but describing him in the terms I read on social media doesn't seem right." "I just want to tell the kids that if they have any problems," the president clarified, "ERSU has the appropriate structures to listen to their needs." Meanwhile, the State Police, with the Flying Squad led by Michele Mecca, are investigating the incident.
