The AOU of Sassari has been ordered to pay compensation for unpaid wages to medical and healthcare managers from 2014 to 2017. This was announced by the Simet Fassid union, which reports the ruling issued on October 8 by the Court of Appeal of Cagliari, Labor Section.

"Performance-related pay," the trade association states, "is effectively a variable portion of healthcare workers' salaries and is subject to company requirements regarding the assignment of strategic objectives and evaluation of the performance of facilities and employees, for the correct and proper allocation of this salary portion." In those years, however, it is reported that healthcare managers working within the company had never received this portion of their salary, "despite repeated warnings from unions and individuals over time."

"Regarding the first of several appeals filed by the then-company union representatives of the Fassid Area Simet management, Davide Piredda and Giampiero Muggianu, with legal assistance from Maria Grazia Tinarelli of the Tinarelli firm in Bologna, the Court of Appeal issued a ruling ordering the AOU of Sassari to pay an appropriate amount of compensation, plus revaluation and legal interest on the sums for each year unpaid, as well as the costs of litigation at both levels of proceedings."

Mauro Mazzoni, National Secretary of Simet, comments: " We are the first to win in Sardinia; it's a landmark ruling that will set a precedent throughout Italy. It's a sign that union battles, even the most challenging ones, must be fought throughout the country. We must continue to believe in them."
