The final hat is now in place. Daniele Mattu will lead the Sartiglia 2026 for the Guild of San Giovanni: he was chosen by s'Oberaiu Majori Tore Carta, following rumors that had been circulating for weeks and have now been officially confirmed. This choice completes the list of protagonists for the next tournament, three weeks after the Carpenters' Guild selected Graziano Pala.

Born in 1986, Mattu arrives at the most important event of his career after a long and successful career. Raised in the Sartigliedda youth academy, he was only nine years old when he first picked up his sword at a gallop . In 2001, he led the procession of mini-componidoreddu riders at the summer Sartigliedda, then in 2008 he entered the Sartiglia of the "big boys."

He's earned six career stars, two of them gold: numbers that speak to his reliability and consistency, and which convinced Tore Carta to entrust him with the prestigious role. He will be paired with Cristian Sarais and Andrea Solinas.

"It's an indescribable feeling, a dream come true," Mattu said immediately after the nomination. The official presentation, in the presence of the guild, at the San Giovanni dei Fiori headquarters, confirmed a choice marked by experience. Now the anticipation is racing toward February, when Daniele Mattu will don the Farmers' mask and the city will have its Componidori.
