The biblical waiting times for public healthcare push citizens to turn to private healthcare. And more and more Italians are asking for a loan to be able to get treatment. And in first place among the Italian regions for requests for personal loans to pay for medical treatments is Sardinia .
This was revealed by an analysis of Facile.it and Subito.it. The Sardinians asked for an average of 6,149 euros to be repaid in just over 51 months . If we look at the profile of the typical applicant on the island, those who made these loan applications have an average age of 49 years . Almost one question in three comes from the 45-54 age group, 19.3% in the 35-44 group, 15.9% between 55 and 64.
46.1% of the people who apply are women, a much higher percentage than the total loan requests in Sardinia, where the female share is 31.4%.
Rates have increased significantly. The average APR in 2022 was 9%, in 2023 it rose to 10.7% .
In 2023, 5.3% of the loans requested by Sardinians were aimed at paying for medical treatments, compared to a national average of 4.7%.
" Today, treatment has become increasingly expensive, also in light of the greater use of private healthcare ", explains Aligi Scotti, BU Director of loans at Facile.it. «Using consumer credit can be a strategy to lighten the impact of these expenses on the family budget, thus avoiding going into trouble or, worse, giving up treatment.».
