A " dramatic 2023 due to a series of events that have put the stability of the Sardinian penitentiary system to the test". On the eve of the new year, the balance sheet drawn up by the UilPa Penitentiary Police is not positive: «Events followed in rapid succession which literally turned the lives, not only professional, of the officers upside down - explains the union in a note -. First the sensational escape from the Nuoro institute of a leading exponent of Apulian organized crime , then the tragic accident of director Incollu and assistant Peppino Fois . As a side note, the Dap has not yet ensured the sending of a commander and a director to extremely complicated institutes such as Sassari and precisely to that of Nuoro". As the regional secretary Michele Cireddu explains, «during the year we visited all the institutes in Sardinia and we noted how the disorganization , the unequal treatment of staff, the administrative violations by some managements and the precarious conditions of the structures , are unfortunately a constant."

Uil announces that from 7 January the new administrator Antonio Galati will begin his career at the helm of the Sardinian penitentiary administration. «During the presentation meeting, in addition to the usual greetings, we pointed out to him that he inherits a catastrophic situation but it is now impossible to go below this level, we can only go up - Cireddu continues -. A difficult 2024 awaits us, we should review the memoranda of understanding that govern the organizational life of police officers, we will have to reorganize the entire Sardinian penitentiary system with maximum attention to the institutions in difficulty."

For the regional secretary it is also necessary to re-evaluate the penal colonies . «Our recent visit to Isili revealed that the structure is in urgent need of restructuring and the current commander, to revive the institute, needs a permanent director who can contribute, with the economic and administrative authorizations of its own competence, to relaunch what should be a gold mine for the administration".
