Over €74 million (€74,765,000 to be precise) will be invested in Sardinia in healthcare construction and the technological modernization of hospital and community facilities , including Ares and Areus. The Regional Council has approved the three-year program for 2025–2027 , allocating the resources to renovations, compliance, energy efficiency improvements, and technological enhancements, with the goal of ensuring modern, safe, and uniform healthcare services across the island.
The resources, drawn from the regional budget and the 2019 State-Region Agreement, are earmarked for renovation, regulatory compliance, energy efficiency improvements, and technological upgrades. The goal is to strengthen the hospital and community network and ensure more modern, safe, and consistent healthcare services across the island. This will ensure a comprehensive redevelopment of the hospital and community system, consistent with the 2021–2027 Development and Cohesion Fund, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), and EU and national funds.
"With this three-year plan of widespread investments," emphasized Regional Health Councilor Armando Bartolazzi, "we are concretely improving the quality and safety of our facilities and updating our technological equipment, bringing it into line with the most advanced standards. This is a clear signal of the Region's commitment to building a more efficient, equitable, and citizen-friendly healthcare system, from large hospitals to the smallest local health facility."
Among the major interventions envisaged in the three-year plan are numerous projects spread across the region. Over €11.8 million has been allocated to the Local Health Authority (ASL) 1 of Sassari , for the safety and renovation of the “A. Segni” Hospital in Ozieri , the completion of the Casa della Salute in Thiesi , and the redevelopment of several community and outpatient facilities in the Sassari area , from Sorso to Ploaghe and the Rizzeddu complex. Projects are also planned to modernize the operating theater at Alghero Hospital and to purchase new biomedical and IT equipment. Approximately €2.8 million has been allocated to the Local Health Authority (ASL) 2 Gallura for the completion of the new hyperbaric chamber at the “Giovanni Paolo II” Hospital in Olbia and for external renovations, as well as for the purchase of medical technology and furnishings. Nuoro Local Health Authority 3 will receive €4 million, largely for fire safety upgrades and the renovation of the "San Francesco" hospital , with projects also planned in Macomer and the purchase of innovative healthcare equipment and furnishings. Ogliastra Local Health Authority 4 will receive €1.2 million for the expansion of the Tortolì outpatient clinic and the technological upgrades of the Lanusei hospital and the Tortolì Health Center. Oristano Local Health Authority 5 will receive €5.8 million for extraordinary maintenance of the "Mastino" hospital in Bosa , the modernization of the Oristano outpatient clinic , and the construction of a new city hospice, along with a series of improvements to local medical services.
Local Health Authority 6 Medio Campidano will receive over €3 million for the redevelopment of the Sanluri Outpatient Clinic and the completion of the Serramanna psychiatric facility. In Sulcis, Local Health Authority 7 will receive €2.8 million for the construction of the new dialysis unit at the CTO in Iglesias, the renovation of the facilities at the Sirai hospital in Carbonia, and safety and renovation work at hospital facilities. Local Health Authority 8 in Cagliari will receive the largest amount of funding, with €14 million earmarked for fire safety upgrades at its main facilities ( Santissima Trinità, Binaghi, Marino, San Giuseppe, and San Marcellino ) and the renovation of the Cagliari Health Center . A further €2.5 million will be allocated for the technological upgrade of the facility. This project will prevent the closure of the Santissima Trinità hospital, a critical issue that Councilor Bartolazzi had already reassured people about just two days ago.
The Cagliari University Hospital will receive €6.8 million for the construction of a new robotic operating room at the Duilio Casula Polyclinic and for the acquisition of advanced biomedical technologies and equipment. The Sassari University Hospital will receive €8.1 million for the renovation of the Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Anesthesia Unit at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital, as well as the purchase of new equipment, including a heart-lung machine and surgical sterilization systems. Arnas G. Brotzu will receive €3.7 million for the technological upgrade of its operating rooms and the purchase of new ultrasound machines, while Areus will receive €500,000 to strengthen its regional air ambulance service and update its technological and IT equipment. Finally, €600,000 will be allocated to Ares for renovation and energy efficiency projects on its administrative buildings.
The university hospitals of Cagliari and Sassari will receive €6.8 million and €8.1 million, respectively, for robotic operating rooms, strategic departments, and new biomedical equipment. Arnas Brotzu will receive €3.7 million for the technological upgrade of its operating rooms, while Areus and Ares will receive a total of €1.1 million for technological upgrades, air ambulance services, and renovations to administrative buildings.
