This morning, after a short and cruel illness, Marco Poddi died peacefully, one of the greatest orthopedic surgeons that Sardinia has ever had , a man of great culture and professional skills, but above all a gentleman from another era.

He was born in Cabras on February 28, 1939, graduated in Cagliari with full marks and honors in 1965. He completed his studies in Pavia, with prof. Goidanich and at Rizzoli in Bologna, then deepening microsurgery and hand surgery in Paris, Lausanne and Vienna, a specialty he preferred and in which he was an absolute excellence. Chief of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Santissima Trinità hospital from 1989 to 2004 , then for several years in the private hospital, he treated thousands of patients.

He leaves behind his wife and two children , Luca and Daniela, and an unfillable void in those who knew and appreciated him. A master, a surgeon of great scientific and moral rigor, admired by all his students for his exceptional talent, but who at the same time cared for the human relationship with the patient with passion.

A first in his class, even a pioneer in the 80s, capable of major operations, including limb replanting and reinnervation of the hand, which he performed with great scruple and seriousness, without ever seeking the limelight. A great loss for the whole island .
