Sardinia is not a friend of mothers . This is what emerges from the eighth edition of the report "Le Equilibriste" by Save the Children , according to which the Autonomous Province of Bolzano stands out among the regions most "friendly" to mothers, followed by Emilia Romagna and Valle d'Aosta , while the conditions the most unfavorable are recorded in Basilicata.

Worse than Sardinia, in addition to Basilicata, are Puglia, Calabria, Sicily and Campania .

The index of mothers by region is the result of an analysis based on seven dimensions: demography, work, services, health, representation, violence, subjective satisfaction.

If the three regions on the podium even exceed the national reference value of 100 by 10 points, followed by Tuscany, Trento, Umbria, Friuli and Lombardy, the island is well below the reference value and stands at 94.325 . The worst, Basilicata, is even below 85 points.

We now come to the various dimensions analysed. Demographics (average number of children per woman or total fertility rate), Sardinia bringing up the rear with a wide gap as it was easy to expect, with an index of 78.571 . To think that the penultimate tied, Basilicata and Molise, are above 90.

Let's move on to "Work" , here Sardinia is doing better and is in twelfth place, albeit below the reference index set at 100. The island is at 98.479 , better than the provinces of Trento and Bolzano and regions of the center such as Molise and Abruzzo.

On the other hand, in the “Representation” chapter, the percentage of women in local political bodies is bad: Sardinia is third last, with an index of 83.784, only Valle d'Aosta and Basilicata are worse .

Good on the "Health" indicator, which indicates the infant mortality rate and the number of active consultants per 100,000 inhabitants by region. The island is sixth with a value well above 100 (to be precise 109.312) , behind Valle d'Aosta, Bolzano, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Basilicata).

Chapter "Services" , which refers to nursery schools, full-time classes and primary school children who attend the canteen: here too Sardinia is not doing too badly, it is placed in mid-table (12th) with an index very close to 100, 99.589 to be precise .

Again, "Subjective satisfaction" with regard to work and leisure . Sardinian mothers are not very satisfied, they are placed 15th among the Italian regions with an index of 96.823 . The most satisfied mothers are in Bolzano, with an index that exceeds 132.

Finally, the chapter "Violence", which shows the number of anti-violence centers and shelters in relation to the number of women. Here the Island is in the middle of the standings (12th position) and slightly exceeds 100 (100.453) .

On average , Italian women dedicate 5 hours and 5 minutes a day to unpaid domestic and family care work, against 1 hour and 48 minutes for men . Three-quarters of domestic work therefore falls on mothers, even when they contribute to income as men devote much more time to domestic work.
