The person responsible for the fire that broke out on 19 July in the countryside of the Jerzu municipality, in the locality of "Mucroni", in the "Tacculuru" region, has been identified.

The fire, which affected an area of around four hectares , made up mainly of woods and Mediterranean maquis, had required the intervention of two regional helicopters from the bases of Lanusei and Sorgono, three tankers and eight pick-ups, involving a total of twenty-six operators in charge of extinguishing including personnel from the Forestry Corps, Forestas Agency, Barracelli and Fire Brigade. More than 24 hours the time it took to put out the flames.

Today, after intense investigations, the staff of the Forestry and Environmental Supervision identified the person responsible: it is AM , a 36-year-old from Jerzu, user of the land from which the flames arose . The man has already been reported to the judicial authority for the appropriate measures. At the moment he risks a fine that can range from 5 to 50 thousand euros in addition to imprisonment.

During the days of the fire it was immediately evident how the flames had spread from a pile of ashes and embers carelessly disposed of within a land subject to horticultural crops . A crime, therefore, of culpable origin but which provides for severe penalties: in the Omnibus Justice decree, approved last August 7 by the Council of Ministers, also following the great fires that broke out in Sardinia, a modification was envisaged to article 423 bis of the Code penalty, in which the minimum penalty in case of arson increases from one to two years, up to a maximum of five.
