«The need for drinking and industrial water is fully guaranteed . The volumes available for drinking water from the reservoirs managed by the Sardinian Water Authority (ENAS) is almost 206 million cubic metres, to which must be added the 12.9 million cubic meters from the other reservoirs . For industrial users, the volumes available for 2023 amount to 22,280,000 cubic metres".

This was announced by the regional councilor for public works, Pierluigi Saiu speaking today, precisely on the theme of water, at the conference "Climate change and the repercussions in the protection of water resources: which solutions?", promoted by Egas.

The institutional Committee of the Basin Authority instead met yesterday and definitively assigned a total of 720 million cubic meters for 2023 for drinking, agricultural and industrial uses throughout Sardinia.

"Obviously the most significant share is the one programmed in favor of the irrigation sector with 479 million cubic meters - specified the commissioner -, in line with last year, with a slightly lower overall allocation, equal to 11.36 million cubic meters less, but which is actually reduced to 7.36 million cubic meters due to the fact that the reclamation consortia of Oristano and Southern Sardinia have expressed an overall requirement of 4 million cubic meters less than in the year previous".

At the end of April 2022, the reservoirs on the island recorded a filling of 1,545.61 million cubic meters (84.74% of the total), in the same period of 2023 the recorded figure was 1,387.40 million cubic meters (equal to 76.06%).

«Although with an overall lower resource, also this year, by virtue of the improvement in the outflows which in the past week brought the level of the water stored in Sardinia to 81% of the total capacity, it was possible to guarantee the satisfaction of almost all needs".

The most significant reductions concern the reservoirs of Punta Gennarta and Medau Zirimilis, in the upper Cixerri system where the reduced volume of water stored (7.89 million cubic meters against 12.06 of last year) and the high consumption of previous years resulted in a lower allocation. The allocation of the water resource from Monte Lerno has also decreased, again due to the reduced volumes stored.
