«With this friendship pact we intend to start a path of exchange and meeting between the communities of Santa Teresa Gallura and Bonifacio in the tourist, cultural and linguistic fields , to create new ties between the two cities, which have always been close, and to start a Twinning Pact».

This is the text signed yesterday afternoon, August 12, in the town hall of Santa Teresa Gallura, by the mayor of the town, Nadia Matta and the mayor of Bonifacio, Jean-Charles Orsucci. “Le Pacte d'Amitié” was signed, “en deux exemplaires originaux”, in Italian and French, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 216 years since the foundation of the town, which took place in 1808, by will of Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoy. A year ago, the same mayor Matta and her colleague Orsucci had signed a “propaedeutic” act. The goal of two top representatives of the two neighboring municipal communities is to reach the signing of the actual Twinning next year.

For Santa Teresa Gallura this would be the second twinning agreement; on October 12, 2019, the first was signed by the then mayor Stefano Pisciottu and his colleague from the island of Ponza, Francesco Ferraiuolo. Yesterday's celebrations for the foundation were an anniversary that offered, said the mayor, Nadia Matta, "the opportunity to look to the past, recognizing the value of our historical and cultural roots, while we continue with determination in our commitment to the future of our community."

There was a historical reenactment procession with drummers and trumpeters, the "Lungoni" folk group, the "Ventu d'Agliola" association, the Garteddi popular traditions folk group from Galtellì, the BV Immacolata folk group from Oschiri, the Ammentos Lussurzesos folk group from S. Lussurgiu, the Cuncordia a Launeddas association from Cagliari, the Mascara a Gattu and Maimones popular traditions folk association from Sarule, the Gigantes from Sennori, the "I pescatori" group, in memory of the founding nucleus of the town. At the end, there was a concert by Maria Luisa Congiu, in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele I, with final fireworks.
